Catena is a cloud Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) platform for ISPs, built to unify the operational and commercial systems that power growth, service delivery, and customer experience.
Running a telecoms business is tough, and we should know, because we have run a couple of them in different countries. Across two continents, we’ve lived the day-to-day reality of what it takes to operate, support customers, manage networks, and stay profitable in markets that do not forgive mistakes.
For many providers, the challenge is not a lack of opportunity to scale, but that the operational burden keeps growing simultaneously in the background. Competition is fierce, customers are less loyal than ever, and too many ISPs are forced into a race to the bottom on price, even though delivering a great service is anything but cheap.
At the same time, the tools most teams rely on are often fragmented. Different systems, portals, spreadsheets and workarounds end up powering different parts of the customer lifecycle, from selling and onboarding, to provisioning, billing, ticketing, call centres, and self-service. When your OSS and BSS environment is stitched together like that, the business becomes harder to run, harder to scale, and harder to improve.
If you are an ISP, you already know the pain points, feeling them when onboarding takes too long, when billing queries take days to resolve, or when your support team cannot see what provisioning is doing without chasing someone internally. You see them when reporting is slow, when teams work in silos, and when growth starts to create complexity instead of momentum.
These types of problem are not caused by your people, but by the systems around them. If this all sounds familiar, you might recognise the pattern we unpack in the real cost of legacy tools and manual workflows, where small inefficiencies quietly become a serious constraint on growth.
As and when there is an acknowledgement that the toolkit is not fit for purpose, for many telco providers, the bigger risk is not choosing the wrong replacement solution, but waiting too long to modernise, which is why we wrote cost of delaying digital transformation for telcos.
Catena exists to remove that friction by bringing the operational and commercial parts of your business into one unified platform, so you can run a modern ISP without needing a patchwork of tools to hold everything together.
Catena is a cloud platform that unifies the capabilities ISPs need to run efficiently, scale confidently, and deliver better customer experiences. In practical terms, that means bringing together the core functions that typically sit across OSS and BSS, including –
Your OSS is where service delivery lives – the workflows, visibility, and operational control that helps you provision services reliably, manage change without chaos, and keep customers connected without relying on manual workarounds.
Your BSS is where commercial performance lives – the billing, customer management, service plans, and lifecycle workflows that help you run a predictable business, reduce disputes, and give customers a smoother experience from day one.
Instead of forcing teams to jump between disconnected systems, Catena gives you one place to manage the end-to-end lifecycle, which reduces manual work, cuts errors, and makes it easier to deliver the kind of experience customers now expect as standard.
We also go deeper into this idea in modern network experience with an orchestration layer, including why orchestration is often the missing piece between disconnected tools and a genuinely joined-up customer journey.
We’re on a mission to eliminate the complex barriers to starting and running an ISP by providing everything needed, seamlessly, in one place. The goal is simply to help providers deliver amazing experiences to customers and staff, while building a financially sustainable business that can grow without operational chaos. Catena is designed to unify siloed teams, systems and data into one environment, so you can stop spinning plates and start building a business that scales properly. When your OSS and BSS functions are aligned instead of fragmented, you spend less time managing complexity and more time improving service, launching new offers, and strengthening customer relationships.
If you want a practical view of what this looks like day to day, reducing costs and freeing up teams with telco automation breaks down where automation delivers the fastest wins for ISPs.
Catena started life inside an ISP in South East Asia, which is a tough and competitive market by any measure. Like many providers, we were dealing with the same operational headaches, such as too many systems, too much manual work, and too many points where the customer experience could break down.
So we built our own platform and systems to make our lives, and the lives of our customers, easier. Over a short time, the ISP grew into a significant player, serving millions of customers, and the Catena platform evolved with it. Catena was built under real operational pressure, not in a test environment, and it was shaped by the realities of provisioning, billing, support, and growth.
Over time, we realised we were not the only ones dealing with these challenges, as competitors were struggling too, and many were trying to solve the same problems with the same patchwork approach.
More recently, in 2025, we launched another ISP in the UK to prove Catena could support the complexity and diversity of a very different market. That matters, because the UK market is mature, competitive, and shaped by high customer expectations. This is what ultimately sets us apart, as we are an ISP ourselves. We serve customers every day, and we build Catena to solve the problems we face in the real world.
If you’re looking for a better way to run your ISP, reduce manual work, and unify your OSS and BSS environment, we’d love to talk.
